LONDON, Mar 16, 2010 / — Infusing a sophisticated maritime palette of navy, cream and white with touches of gold, the Spring 2010 Le Grand Hotel collection for Ralph Lauren Home creates a dramatic interpretation of an elegant Riviera suite.
With exquisite, timeless beauty, urbane navy-and-white and romantic cream-and-gold bedrooms are artfully joined by an impeccably appointed dining and drawing room.
Classic tones of navy and white depict a sophisticated, formal bedroom subtly softened by florals and gold accents.
Flanked by limestone and polished brass side tables, an impressive 1920s-style Louis XV bed is crafted from rich French walnut with applied brass, paw feet and navy tufted linen upholstery.
Each element on the bed is refined with a sleek, tailored construction: Linen pinstriped bedding recalls crisp summer suiting.
Cotton pique sheets and shams with a fine dobby texture evoke a gentlemen’s tuxedo shirt. Maritime boating-striped pillows are inspired by the casual elegance of iconic Polo knit shirts. Painterly floral shams and a gold-woven panama linen pillow modeled after looks from the Ralph Lauren Runway lend an elegant feel to the bed.
On either side of the room sit two inviting linen club chairs with nautical navy-and-white pillows and a 40s-inspired rattan armchair upholstered in dressy silk stripes.
The walls are covered in a deep navy linen-silk; the windows draped in matching navy conjure images of a midnight sky.
Floral designs are echoed in porcelain lamps and a fluted vase. Blue and white ginger jars sit atop a Northern Italian chest in French walnut with vigorous cabochon and foliate designs and antiqued brass pulls.
A glass-topped desk illuminated by an antiqued nickel and brass swing-arm lamp is paired with a subtly distressed gilded bergere chair with leather upholstery. Heirloom-quality leather picture frames are detailed with embossed gold trim.
Dressed head-to-toe in sumptuous cream and gold, the second bedroom possesses a chic, enchanted romance with an understated luxury. An upholstered bed with a delicately scalloped headboard is layered with diamond-patterned and striped sateen jacquards.
Pillows are fashioned from silk-lined glistening sheer linen, bullion-embroidered shantung and pieced chevron-patterned silk and panné velvet.
The walls are covered in softly shimmering gilded linen. At the foot of the bed, a matching upholstered bench stands on gold-painted legs.
Across the room, an antique-inspired chaise is trimmed with a lavish, whimsical moss fringe. Faux-parchment is introduced into the room as a gilded desk and Louis XV-style side table. Decorative accessories include a saddle leather desk blotter, croc-embossed picture frame and shagreen frames and boxes featuring a graphic silver grid motif.
In the dining room, woven dining chairs finished in a glazed molasses hue and upholstered in a silk navy pinstripe flank a round table gracefully set with tableware in blue, white and gold. Chevron-striped chargers are layered with navy gold-banded china.
Embroidered napkins with a white-on-white chain motif are cinched with two-tone silver plate and brass napkin rings. Smaller-scaled hurricanes and etched crystal wine glasses finish the table.
Dessert plates include deco bone china in gold and white and an indigo floral porcelain.
The sitting room employs a bolder approach to the collection’s blue and white palette with a grand sofa upholstered in oversized club stripes. Throw pillows in navy silk faille, chevron stripes and gold-woven linen add textural depth; the gold is mirrored in a leather-trimmed textured linen blanket.
A painted faux-parchment Ming cocktail table offsets the sofa’s graphic appearance with an incredibly luxe, yet subtle surface. A Louis XVI-style chair with fluted legs and white gilded finish is upholstered in a menswear chalk stripe and accented with chevron silk pillows.
A throw pillow embroidered with a beaded gold bullion monogram adds a touch of luxury. A three-tiered end table with brass ferrules has an austere, neoclassical sensibility.
Iron consoles with a pewter finish and limestone top complement the clean lines and bold stripes of the room with strong scroll motifs. A navy-and-gold backgammon set and a parchment tray on ash legs offer a stylish opportunity to entertain.
